If I were human, I’d want to be Irish. They even have their own day. I’d have to be black Irish. I am black.
In keeping with the coming of Saint Paddy’s day, as it is commonly called, we at the Pine River Public Library are offering a really great program. Kitchigami Regional Library in conjunction with Minnesota Arts and Heritage Fund is bringing you Erin Hart and Paddy O’Brien as “Artists in Residence”. Ms Hart has written a series of crime novels set in Ireland that revolve around archeology, forensics, history, traditional music and folklore. She will be offering a workshop called “Writing From Place: What’s in Your Site Kit?”” and will be accompanied by her husband, Paddy O’Brien, who plays button box accordion. What fun is this?
Be sure to call ahead – 218-587-4639 – and reserve a space. I already have mine. I didn’t even need to call. Ms. Hart will first give a talk and then the group break up into 2 workshops. Ever wanted to write a story about something close to home? Now’s your chance for guidance. A writer’s workshop! How great is that? And there’s more. Remember I mentioned 2 workshops? Paddy, who has been called a walking encyclopedia of Traditional Irish Music will offer an Irish music workshop during the same time period called “Sitting By The Fire: Where Irish Traditional Music Lives”. Which one to attend? I pick music. I already think of myself as a writer. Muriel will need to know which you choose. After the workshops Paddy will give us a bit of music. Mark this date and time on your calendar, and again, remember to call to reserve your place: Monday, Feb. 28th at 5:00 PM at the Pine River Library.
See you soon.
